With over 14 years of professional experience in the film industry, writer and director, Derrick Anthony, began his artistic career as an actor in the local, theatre scene of Chicago. After a short, but successful stint in stage plays, Derrick gave up acting altogether and moved to NYC to explore his growing interest in writing and directing. Learning all aspects of the industry through production work with major studio and independent feature films/television companies (Blue Bloods, Everybody's Fine, Royal Pains, etc.) and studying in NYU's Screenwriting Certificate Program, Derrick gained strong insight into crafting stories.
Inspired to originate ChiYork Productions in 2008 to seize additional business opportunities, Derrick has produced all facets of media content along with consulting on several independent short, feature film, and web series. He has directed branded content for Ford Motor company, conceptualized and directed a fashion/style internet series with Project Runway alumni, Kimberly Goldson, and written a commissioned feature film screenplay with renowned hip hop artist, Havoc of Mobb Deep.
As writer and director of several original ChiYork produced projects, Derrick is best known for his short film, Popous Pane and the Kids He Loves to Hate, a finalist in the 2009 HBO Short Film Competition that earned him a two-year licensing deal with HBO. Derrick's artistry and narrative deftness secured him additional distribution deals with major networks (NBC, ABC, and CBS) for his short films, Milestones, and 10 Cards, which are currently airing on Xfinity Streampix, Amazon, and Pantaflix, a Berlin based streaming company. Derrick is currently producing and directing a documentary film about legendary jingle producer, Bernie Drayton.
Combining many years of unique industry experience and expertise, Derrick is looking forward to embarking on his first feature film, Hate/Love.
